Biography
Brian became a full-time ERAU faculty member (College of Aviation, Safety Sciences Dept.) in August 2020 and accepted the Department Chair position in July 2021. Prior to joining the faculty, he had been the Director of Aviation Safety for Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University’s Prescott campus (PC) for nearly the preceding 10 years; other roles at ERAU have included flight instructor (2005-2011), standards check instructor (2006-2011), team safety leader (2010-2011), and assistant training manager (2006-2009). In his previous positions, Brian had been a team member in developing a Safety Management System, led the initiatives to implement an Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP) and a Flight Data Monitoring (FDM) program, and had been recognized for efforts that have resulted in a positive safety culture and markedly reduced accident rate. He served as an adjunct faculty member in the PC Safety Science Department since 2015, primarily teaching SF345 Safety Program Management, and an adjunct for the College of Aviation from 2007 to 2012. Brian is a Commercial Pilot, Certified Flight Instructor, Administrative Pilot Examiner, and a FAASTeam Lead Representative, having been recognized as the 2017 FAASTeam Representative of the year for Arizona and the Western Pacific region of the FAA. He is credentialed as a Certified International Safety Manager (CISM) by the International Society of Safety Professionals (ISSP), and as a Certified HFACS Professional (CHP). Brian is also an associate staff member for the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Transportation Safety Institute (TSI), teaching the Human Factors Analysis and Classification System (HFACS) to audiences that include FAA inspectors, military personnel, and private sector safety managers.Education
