Making Sense of Big Data from Classroom Assessments: Teacher Case Studies and Facets-based Physics Assessments

Chicago Transit Authority                                                                                                  May 2014-Present    

Business Analyst, Supply Chain – Preparing daily, weekly, and monthly reports for CTA’s supply chain organization. Other activities being monitored include the productivity of the workers in the CTA warehouse, annualized inventory counting at CTA’s replenishment facility, and inventory turns ratio at the various CTA stockrooms.


City Colleges of Chicago                                 December 2013- May 2014    

Budget Analyst– Managed operating budgets for three of the seven City Colleges.  Utilization of PeopleSoft database tools and methods to extract, validate, analyze, track, and trend data. Used data mining and statistical analysis techniques to review and analyze institutional spending data for predictive forecasting of FY15 budgets for different operating units and different campuses. Aided the Strategy team with development of benchmark data (number of students for each full time faculty member at all seven colleges, number of full time engineers employed by colleges over last five fiscal years, number of janitors employed by colleges over last five fiscal years, etc.).

Consultant (part-time) – Assist with the analysis of the diagnostic capabilities of online physics problem sets. Visual Basic, SPSS, Winsteps, and SAS skills required for this role. Use of data mining and statistical analysis techniques to review and analyze educational data for predictive forecasting. Develop, generate, and revise routine and ad hoc detail and summary level reports, including written interpretation of analytic results and report automation.    


City Colleges of Chicago                                         May 2007 – March 2008    

Director of Business and Industry Services (Olive Harvey College) - Developed collaborative relationships between the college and local governments, chambers of commerce and economic development commissions in an effort to determine educational and training needs of the business community.  Reports provided to management in MS Word.  Created steering committees (educators and business representatives) to introduce two year associate degree program in Process Technology for the Oil, Gas, and Refinery Industry. Created steering committees (educators and business representatives) to introduce two year associate degree program for Diesel Mechanics for the Railroad Industry.


Westell Technologies                                       May 2006 – January 2007

Product Line Manager - Developed technical and marketing requirements for modems and routers supplied to rural market internet service providers. Internet service providers included CenturyTel, Cincinnati Bell, Alaska Telecom, Hawaiian Telecom, and various distributors. Increased revenues in this market segment by 20%. Reports provided to management using MS Word.  Reports included explanation of MS Excel information acquired from raw data. Data analytics used to determine the cost of producing modems and routers. Pricing information to clients was based on 35% markup from cost. Clients were billed based on volume of products ordered.


Zebra Technologies                                      November 2004 – December  2005                                                                                                

Firmware Product Manager - Developed technical and marketing requirements for Zebra's printer firmware to support various features (wireless connectivity, printing labels in multiple languages) across all Zebra printer product lines. Developed contracts and end-user license agreements with vendors for the use of printer resident fonts. Reduced licensing costs for fonts by 38%. Reports provided to management using MS Word.  Reports included explanation of MS Excel information acquired from raw data. Data analytics was used to determine the appropriate licensing costs for the use of fonts.  Cost of fonts needed to be reduced in order to lower the cost of building various printers.  This information was ultimately used to determine the amount of leverage Zebra had with regards to price adjustments on printers.


Motorola Incorporated                                        October 2000- November 2004    

Product Manager, Nextel Base Site Controller - Designed and sold features for cellular infrastructure equipment sold to Nextel. Procured $75 Million contract with Nextel for product requirements development of Next Generation Cellular Base Site Controller.

Software Engineer – Designed, tested, and integrated various CDMA transceiver subsystems in domestic and International markets.  


Lockheed Martin                                                    February 1995 – March 1997    

Software Engineer – Developed operational procedures to validate the functionality of submarine weapons systems. Authored an operations manual and systems requirements document outlining message transfer between sonobuoys and deployed naval vessels.
