Professor Fiegl served 38 years active duty in the Navy as an aircraft mechanic and inspector, P-3 Flight Engineer and maintenance instructor while enlisted. After commissioning, he served as an aircraft maintenance officer in helicopter, fighter and patrol squadrons and aboard aircraft carriers. He held command of aviation technical training units at NAS Whidbey Island, WA and NAS Pensacola, FL.
