Athina Holmes


Ms. Athina Holmes is an assistant professor in the Aeronautical Science Department at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Daytona Beach. Her primary responsibilities is teaching undergraduate level Private Pilot Operations and Aeronautical Science Success.

Prior to joining ERAU, Ms. Holmes has experienced a thirty year career in the airline industry American Airlines -In Flight and Delta Air Lines -Management. Other aviation accomplishments include achieving the following: Private Pilot, Instrument, Multi-Engine, Commercial Pilot license, Advanced Ground Instructor (AGI), Instrument Ground Instructor (IGI), Part 107 sUAS and Aircraft Dispatcher Certification. She is also an Airport Certified Employee (ACE) -Airfield Operations by the American Association of Airport Executives.

“Education Is the Most Powerful Weapon Which You Can Use to Change the World” -Nelson Mandela. A favorite quote, Ms. Holmes believes an education is the foundation of self-dependence, confidence, advancement, and overall growth. In addition to achieving a Bachelor of Science degree in Broadcast Journalism from Texas Woman’s University 1991, she earned a Master’s degree in Aeronautical Science with two Specializations: Aerospace Safety Systems and Aviation Operations from the prestigious Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Ft. Lauderdale, FL Worldwide campus, 2013. This accomplishment provided her first start in the university setting. She is proud to have been a great asset to the “Roaring Lions” Florida Memorial University team serving as Assistant Professor of Aviation and Safety. She contributed to the implementation of the Cessna Part 141 Private Pilot program. Online instructor certified, she also served as Adjunct Professor teaching aviation courses online for Green River College, Auburn, Washington. 

An avid contributor to aviation organizations, she has been a spokesperson for Embry-Riddle career fairs, Ft. Lauderdale, FL campus; member of Women in Aviation International Inc. since 2006; Pilots in Schools Volunteer/Member of the Organization of Black Aerospace Professionals since 2007; and Air Race Classic Member and Participant Racer.
