Biography
Dr. Daniel Gressang is an assistant professor in the Security Studies and International Affairs Department. He holds a Ph.D. in Government and Politics from the University of Maryland, an M.S. in Strategic Intelligence from the Joint Military Intelligence College, and an M.A. and B.A. in Political Science from the University of Alabama. Before joining the Embry-Riddle, he was an analyst, manager and policy expert at the U.S. National Security Agency. He served in various counter-intelligence and counter-terrorism positions and was Government Director at the Center for Advanced Study of Language.
Dr. Gressang specializes in political violence and strategic intelligence. His research in political violence focuses on terrorist, insurgent and extremist efforts to build and maintain supportive constituencies, radicalization processes, and terrorist use of weapons of mass destruction. In intelligence, he specializes in strategic warning of threats, emergent national and homeland security issues, and applications of complex systems analysis to intelligence and national security.
While at the National Security Agency (NSA), Dr. Gressang served in various positions, including strategy and policy development for counterterrorism and counter-intelligence and as Government Director of the NSA-sponsored Center for Advanced Study of Language. Dr. Gressang also served as an NSA visiting professor at the National Intelligence University, where he taught courses in intelligence collection management, terrorism analysis and intelligence support for national military strategy. He also supervised over 100 Master’s theses on intelligence, security and terrorism related topics.
