Deborah Wood is an adjunct instructor in the Humanities and Communication Department. She holds an M.A. in History from the University of California, Berkeley, specializing in the history of science. Since graduate school, she has worked in the public history sector in government and non-profit organizations.

Her research focuses on the history of mathematics in medieval and early modern Eurasia. In particular, she is interested in the intersection of mathematical practice and political and religious context, such as the Jesuit Mission to China in the 17th century. She was trained in a school of thought (STS or science, technology, and society studies) that takes as premise the idea that science is not separate from culture. Consequently, she values the Humanistic STEM program at Embry-Riddle and enjoys teaching H-STEM courses. She also teaches cultural studies classes with the Humanities and Communications department, drawing on two decades of study across 10 languages and their related cultures.
