I decided to join the United States Navy, was designated a naval aviator in 1996, and have been flying ever since. Over the past 30 years I have been flying both civilian and military aircraft, and have logged over 3,500 flight hours in 15 different types of aircraft. I hold a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) commercial, multi-engine, instrument rating and have qualified in tactical aircraft such as the S-3B Viking, EA-6B Prowler, and as a maintenance test aviator on the F/A-18F Super Hornet.  I have flown all over the world learning and abiding by numerous international and U.S, federal, state, and local aviation rules and regulations. I was responsible for implementing safety, security, air navigation, and infrastructure requirements during an overseas airport development project and am also a certified Government Flight Representative and a Federally Certified Aviation Safety Officer.

I retired from active duty in 2016 and hung-up my aviator ‘wings’ after 21 years of service.  Those years gave me a fair amount of experience with aircraft, aviation units, air stations, airports, air traffic control and air bases throughout the world leading to valuable expertise in airport management, aeronautics, training, education, flight operations, and aviation safety. I have held military positions that equate to the role of a National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) aviation accident investigator, airport manager, dispatcher, aircraft operations, Crew Resource Management Instructor (CRM-I) in three type/model/series aircraft, and have instructed at the U.S. Navy's School of Aviation Safety teaching topics on safety program management, human factors, risk management, crew resource management, and mishap investigations to U.S. Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, and Allied leadership - which almost always include lessons learned in CRM.  I have been a lead on three major military aircraft mishaps and a consultant on over 100 where both human factors and CRM usually play a role.  Currently, I am assigned as the Safety, Quality, and Regulatory Compliance Director - responsible for managing the Quality, Environmental, Occupational Safety/Health, and Aviation Safety Management Systems at a major aerospace maintenance, repair, and overhaul facility.
