Dothang Truong

Dr. Dothang Truong is Professor of School of Graduate Studies and Program Coordinator for the Ph.D. in Aviation program at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, Daytona Beach, FL. He received his Ph.D. in Manufacturing Management and Engineering from the University of Toledo in 2004. He is an APICS Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) and a member of the Transportation Research Board’s Economics and Forecasting Committee. He also serves on National Science Foundation (NSF) Review Panel in the Advanced Manufacturing Division. He has strong expertise in data science, machine learning, natural language processing, predictive modeling, transportation management, risk assessment and modeling, supply chain and logistics management, decision support, and research methodology. He has extensive skills and experience in data analytics software including SAS Enterprise Miner, SPSS, AMOS, STATISTICA, NVivo, and LINGO. He teaches data mining, operations research and decision-making, advanced statistics, structural equation modeling, logistics and supply chain management, and transportation management. His research interests include natural language processing, data mining, machine learning in risk prediction and aviation safety, impacts of COVID-19 on transportation, UAS risk modeling and network optimization, airline efficiency evaluation, multimodal transportation, and data envelopment analysis model for SMS effectiveness.  

He worked on several external grants funded by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and FAA’s Center of Excellence for UAS Research (ASSURE), in which he developed and tested the safety management system (SMS) effectiveness model using the Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) method and performed comprehensive data analysis for non-segregated UAS operations into the National Airspace System (NAS). In addition, he received several internal research grants to develop predictive models for flight delays in the NAS and to use machine learning algorithms to predict small UAS violation incidents. 

He has established a strong publication record in top-tier journals including Journal of Air Transport Management, Transportation, Transportation Journal, Safety Science Journal, Journal of Intelligence and Robotic Systems, International Journal of Aviation Psychology, Transportation Research Record, International Journal of Aeronautical Science & Aerospace Research, International Journal of Business Analytics, Journal of Enterprise Information Management International Journal of Production Research, International Journal of Electronic Market, Journal of Business-to-Business Marketing, Journal of Organizational Computing and Electronic Commerce, Industrial Marketing Management, International Journal of Emerging Technologies in Learning, among others. He received the Blackboard Exemplary Course Award in 2014, and the Best Research Paper Awards by International Academy of Business and Public Administration Disciplines in two consecutive years 2006 and 2007.
