Harsha Abeykoon is an Associate Professor in the Mechanical Engineering Department at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University’s Prescott, Arizona campus. He earned his Ph.D. and M.S. in Integrated Design Engineering from Keio University, Japan, and a B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka.

Prior to joining Embry-Riddle, Dr. Abeykoon held academic positions at the University of Moratuwa, the Asian Institute of Technology in Thailand, and Plymouth State University, NH. His research interests include deep learning applications in haptics, bilateral teleoperation, biomedical robotics and advanced motion control systems. He has contributed to projects such as haptic object reconstruction, rehabilitation robots, and sensorless electric steering systems.​

Dr. Abeykoon has received multiple accolades, including Outstanding Research Performance Awards from the University of Moratuwa and a Best Paper Award at EECon 2021. As a Senior Member of IEEE, he actively participates in international professional activities, and he has held leadership roles in the IEEE New Hampshire Section and the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society.​
