Hello, my name is Dr. James “Jim” Lane. I received my BS from Texas A&M University in Commercial Recreation and Parks, my MS from Texas A&M in Educational Administration-Higher Education and my PhD from Texas A&M in Human Resource Development. My interest in the Human Resource field was brought about by my experiences in leadership positions in the military and in Higher Education Administration.

After completing my BS degree, I entered the U. S. Army as an officer at the Armor Officer Basic Course at Fort Knox, KY. Upon completion of the Basic Course I was stationed in northern Germany for 3 years serving in leadership positions as Tank Platoon Leader, Motor Officer and Executive Officer. With the intentions of making the military my career I completed my assignment in Europe and was transferred to Fort Hood, Texas.         Having grown up in Texas this brought me back home. However, following the end of the Viet Nam conflict, the military was experiencing a large downsize and as a result I was removed from active duty. This did not end my military career and eventually I completed 20 years combined service in the Active and Reserve Army retiring at the rank of Major.

With a new civilian world ahead of me I decided to return to college and get my MS in Educational Administration-Higher Education from Texas A&M. My degree allowed me to serve in numerous positions such as International Student Advisor, Housing Coordinator, Assoc. Director of Financial Aid and Director of Financial Aid at several state universities such as Texas A&M, the University of Houston and Texas Tech University. In addition to these positions, I have also served as a Regional Vice President for Key Bank in the student loan industry and as a Director/Campus President for a proprietary college.

Early in my military career I served as the Personnel Officer for an Armored Battalion with over 700 service members. In that capacity I was responsible for the complete operations and management of the personnel and processing (now called human resources) section. This experience gave me the first taste of Human Resources and I was hungry! In 2000 I started my doctoral program at Texas A&M in Human Resource Development. This program fell completely within my professional experiences of teaching, training and personnel management. Completing my program in 2003, I have continually been involved with local, state and national Human Resource, Training and Development organizations. In 2008, I sat for the Senior Professional in Human Resources SPHR exam and achieved the SPHR designation.  Most recently, I was awarded the SHRM-SCP designation.

My wife and I have a wonderful empty nest in Belton Texas but do miss our three daughters and 5 grandchildren. My hobbies include hiking and jeep driving in the mountains of New Mexico with my wife
