Jim is an Associate Professor and the Physics/Astronomy Course Coordinator at the College of Southern Maryland as well as a Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP).  Prior to becoming a full-time teacher he worked for Lockheed Martin and RBC, Inc. as a systems engineer supporting various domestic and international maritime surveillance aircraft programs including the P-3C and P-8A.  Prior to joining Lockheed Martin he worked for DynCorp as a software engineer maintaining and upgrading the software for the U.S. Marine Corps AV-8B Harrier aircraft flight simulators.

In addition he served 12 years in the U.S. Navy as a Naval Flight Officer and another 12 years in the U.S. Naval Reserve as an Aeronautical Engineering Duty Officer and holds a Masters Degree in Physics from the Naval Postgraduate School and a Bachelor Degree in Physics from the Virginia Military Institute.
