BACKGROUND: From Sioux City, Iowa, after graduating from high school I attended the United States Military Academy, West Point, New York. Upon graduation, I attended the United States Army's Airborne and Ranger Schools.
JOBS: I recently retired from my position in the Office of the Chief Counsel, United States Citizenship and Immigration Services, Department of Homeland Security, Washington, DC, where I provided advice and counsel on personnel and labor matters, ethics, and government contracts. I have represented the Department of Justice, Department of Homeland Security, and the U.S. Army before numerous administrative hearings such as the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Merit Systems Protection Board, the Office of the Special Counsel, and the Government Accountability Office Board of Contract Appeals. I recently served as a member of the management negotiation team during the negotiations of a collective bargaining agreement.
MILITARY EXPERIENCE: I was initially commissioned as an Air Defense Artillery officer with tours in Germany and Vietnam. The Army sent me to law school, after which I transferred branches to the Army's Judge Advocate General's Corps. My Judge Advocate General Corps assignments included defense counsel; prosecutor; Staff Judge Advocate, 1st Armored Division; and instructor at the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General’s School in Charlottesville, Virginia.
FAMILY: I've two sons and a daughter, one dog (Carolina Dog (CD)), and one wife. We presently live in Castle Pines, CO.
