Joel Samu is an Instructor of Record at the School of Graduate Studies, College of Aviation at Embry‑Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach. He was recently awarded first place in the Airport Cooperative Research Program (ACRP) design competition for work addressing airport safety (sponsored by TRB and the FAA). He continues to work with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) through the Boeing Center for Aviation and Aerospace Safety on the In-Time System-Wide Safety Assurance (ISSA) to enhance real-time aviation safety. He is an active member of the Dean’s Student Advisory Board (DSAB) at the College of Aviation.

Joel’s research interests are interdisciplinary and include aviation and airport safety, unmanned aerial systems, social and cognitive psychology, decision-making, and human factors. He previously served as a faculty member at an Australian university (University of Wollongong), where he taught courses in finance, economics, and statistics. He holds advanced degrees in both finance and aviation safety. As an aviator, he remains committed to teaching and scholarly research aimed at improving aviation safety and advancing graduate education.
