Kenneth P. Byrnes

Dr. Kenneth Byrnes is a professor of Aeronautical Science and serves as the Flight Department Chair and Assistant Dean of the College of Aviation at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University’s Daytona Beach Campus. With more than two decades of aviation leadership experience, he oversees one of the world’s largest collegiate flight training programs, guiding over 400 aviation professionals and 1,800 flight students.

Dr. Byrnes earned his Ph.D. in Business from Northcentral University with specializations in Airline Management and Management of Engineering and Technology. His research focuses on safety culture, aeronautical decision-making, and innovative approaches to flight training. A Six Sigma Green Belt and experienced Certificated Flight Instructor, he holds instrument and multi-engine instructor ratings as well as an Airline Transport Pilot Certificate.

Under his leadership, Embry-Riddle’s flight program has advanced through major modernization initiatives, including the integration of virtual and mixed-reality technologies in pilot training and the implementation of data-driven safety and quality management systems.

A Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society, Dr. Byrnes has been recognized nationally and internationally for his contributions to aviation safety leadership, education, and training innovation. He continues to play an active role in shaping the future of global flight education and aviation safety.
