Kimberly Szathmary

Kimberly Szathmary brings extensive experience in worldwide flight operations, aviation safety, human factors and instruction in high-consequence environments. Her operational background includes a 21-year military flying career in a range of aircraft, from the high-performance T-38A Talon and the C-141B Starlifter to the versatile C-17A Globemaster III. Throughout her service, she supported global airlift, humanitarian relief, aeromedical evacuation, Presidential support and combat operations.

As a senior instructor at the C-17 Formal Training Unit, Szathmary taught advanced high-performance maneuvering, backside flight characteristics, advanced aerodynamics, aerial refueling, tactical descent and approaches, night-vision operations and assault landing techniques. She is experienced in domestic and international navigation, flight operations and aircraft systems.

Szathmary holds an FAA Commercial Pilot Certificate (Airplane Multiengine Land; Instrument Airplane; Private Privileges, Airplane Single Engine Land) and a Flight Instructor Certificate (Airplane Multiengine, Instrument Airplane).

She has served as full-time faculty in the Applied Aviation Sciences Department since 2015, contributing to the Aviation and Aerospace Safety program (formerly Aerospace and Occupational Safety). Before joining the department, she spent seven years as a staff member at Embry-Riddle’s Worldwide headquarters and taught as adjunct faculty from 2004 to 2015.
