Biography
LESLIE SALAS has joined Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University as an Instructor of Humanities and Communication. She holds an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Central Florida and is a graduate of the University of Denver’s Publishing Institute. She serves as the graphic nonfiction / poetry comics editor for Sweet: A Literary Confection and has edited two books: the Other Orlandos Anthology (Burrow Press, 2017) and Condoms & Hot Tubs Don’t Mix: An Anthology of Awkward Sexcapades (Beating Windward Press, 2018).
As a high school student, Leslie Salas interned at NASA's Kennedy Space Center and participated in FIRST Robotics programs, including several years of mentoring Lego League teams. She minored in Physics as an undergraduate, where she also gained experience as an undergraduate lab assistant in the Human-Robot Interaction Lab, edited the college's Society of Women Engineers newsletter, and was instrumental in planning an annual Engineering Expo.
Leslie Salas' scholarly pedagogical research on comics, multimodality, diversity, and writing-in-the-industry has been presented at several regional and national conferences, including ones held by the College English Association and the Association for Writers and Writing Programs. She is a multimodal writer-poet-cartoonist whose work can be found in The Southeast Review, Rogue Agent, SmokeLong Quarterly, and more.
