Biography
Marie Lathers spent twelve years at Iowa State University and twenty years at Case Western Reserve University before coming to Worldwide. She also spent a year at Missouri University of Science and Technology as a distinguished visiting professor of humanities. She has, in addition, received a Fulbright Award that allowed her to teach at the University of Dschang in Cameroon. She has received numerous grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities. Her research areas include French literature and culture (especially the nineteenth century), world literature, literature in English, the relationship between literature and the visual arts, and creative writing and children’s literature. She is the author of four books and numerous articles. Her most recent one is "Sleight of Hand: Signor Brunoni, Disappearing Acts, and Empire in Elizabeth Gaskell’s Cranford." Studies in the Novel 53(2), 2021, 91-102. Her most recent book is The Okefenokee Swamp: A Natural and Cultural History. The History Press/Arcadia Press, 2024.
