Biography
Dr. Melissa Morris joined Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in December 2019. She was inspired by robots as a child, which propelled her to become an engineer. She enjoys working in all areas of robotics and but with more focus in kinematics, mechanisms, alternative drive systems, and safety in human-interaction. Application of her technical research has been on robotic systems that assist people including the practical aspects of mobile platforms, surgical systems, and rehabilitative technologies. She currently has over 25 years of experience in mechatronics and robotics.
Dr. Morris has a passion for integrating areas of knowledge and uses that toward advancing STEAM education with a focus on enhancing creativity and inclusion, while also promoting a rounded education with professional skills and ethics. She enjoys exploring cultures and diverse ideas and her work experience reflects that. She has worked for the Ford Motor Company in Cologne, Germany; the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology in Haifa, Israel; and the Sensormatic Corporation in Boca Raton, Florida. She has previously taught at Florida Polytechnic University, Palm Beach State College, and Florida International University.
