Biography
Mr. Michael Uenking is an adjunct faculty member in the Worldwide School of Engineering Aerospace Department and ENGR 120 Course Developer.
He holds a Master of Engineering in Aerospace Engineering from Old Dominion University, a Master of Business Administration in Technology Management from the University of Phoenix and a Master of Education from Grand Canyon University. Mr. Uenking earned his degrees while working at NASA Langley Research Center as an Aerospace Technologist, Human Factors Engineering Researcher and Wind Tunnel Test Engineer, and while working as a high school AP Physics teacher (3 years).
After receiving his Master of Education, he was later employed as an Associate Professor in Engineering at a local community college (6 years). Currently, he works as a support contractor for the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD). Mr. Uenking's expertise includes Mechanical Engineering Design, Systems Engineering, Human Factors Engineering, Export Control, Hypersonics and Advanced Materials. At NASA Langley Research Center, he managed various industrial aerospace aerodynamics research projects in the National Transonic Facility as a Wind Tunnel Test Engineer. As a Human Factors Researcher, he conducted several experiments focusing on General Aviation flight safety, human situational awareness and the prevention of loss of control and controlled flight into terrain events. His research has been published in international journals.
In 2014, Mr. Uenking joined the Worldwide School of Engineering as an adjunct professor, teaching various undergraduate engineering courses. He later became the course developer of the Introduction to Engineering Graphics course (ENGR 120). In 2023-2024, he updated the entire course to incorporate a new computer-aided graphics tool (Autodesk Inventor) and enhance student experience.
Throughout his tenure at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Mr. Uenking served as a government contractor for NASA Langley (2014-2021) and for the DoD (2021-present). He has received multiple service awards and developed critical documents and operating procedures that improved productivity and efficiency.
As a current DoD contractor, Mr. Uenking has acquired six Defense Acquisition University credentials. He is also a member of several professional organizations and serves as the Congressional Budget Analyst for the Critical Technology Areas of Hypersonics and Advanced Materials.
In addition to his academic, industrial, and governmental activities, Mr. Uenking is a percussionist with the York River Symphony Orchestra, his Church, and two local community theatres.
