Michelle Whisenhant

Dr. Whisenhant is an assistant professor of Meteorology in the Department of Applied Aerospace Science, where she serves as an instructor and course developer and oversees the Applied Meteorology Minor. She holds a Ph.D. in Meteorology and a M.S. in Meteorology and Physical Oceanography from the Naval Postgraduate School.

Before her academic career, Dr. Whisenhant served as a U.S. Navy meteorologist, providing mission-specific weather and ocean forecasts for aviation, maritime and special operations. Much of her teaching experience was gained during her Naval service, teaching traditional physics and nuclear physics courses at the Naval Nuclear Power School and math and meteorology courses at the U.S. Naval Academy and Naval Postgraduate School.

Dr. Whisenhant has been teaching and developing online courses since 2007 and has produced several of the meteorology courses offered at the Worldwide campus. She is passionate about teaching meteorology and its applications within aviation and other professional industries, committed to helping students achieve their academic goals, and dedicated to supporting Embry-Riddle meteorology programs and faculty.

As an avid cyclist and triathlete, Dr. Whisenhant connects life's physically active and social aspects. She is also a former collegiate cycling coach (U.S. Navy Cycling Club) and currently enjoys mentoring and encouraging others in the pursuit of athletic endeavors.
