Biography
Rachel Lee is an Aviation English Specialist. She holds a Master of Public Administration with a concentration in Aviation English and a Master of Arts in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages, both from Southern Illinois University (SIU). Rachel also holds an FAA Private Pilot Certificate and is certified as a Weather Observer by the National Weather Service. She speaks conversational Spanish and Mandarin Chinese, further enriching her ability to connect with diverse learners.
During her tenure at SIU, Rachel served as the supervisor of flight operations, advised aviation students across various disciplines, and played a key role in student recruitment. She excelled at fostering industry connections by organizing student participation in aviation conferences and establishing partnerships that bridged education and industry.
In 2021, Rachel joined the Embry-Riddle Language Institute, where she taught English to language learners. That same year, she began teaching Aviation English to ab initio flight students in the Flight Department. By 2023, Rachel brought her expertise to the Embry-Riddle, focusing on English for Air Traffic Control.
Currently, Rachel is actively developing courses to expand Aviation English training for various sectors of the international aviation community. She also serves as a rater for the English for Flight Training Assessment (EFTA) tests and teaches Aviation English to students worldwide.
Rachel is deeply committed to promoting the critical role of communication in aviation safety and efficiency. She thrives on collaborating with subject matter experts, crafting dynamic, real-world lessons, and engaging learners through meaningful content.
Rachel stays at the forefront of the field by participating in webinars, presenting workshops, and attending conferences with the International Civil Aviation English Association (ICAEA) and TESOL International. She leverages her expertise to benefit her students, her institution, and the broader aviation community, advancing excellence in Aviation English education worldwide.
