Biography
Dr. Saman Farhangdoust is an Assistant Professor in the Aerospace Engineering Department at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, where he also serves as the director of the Smart and Multifunctional Meta-structures (SAMM) research group. Dr. Farhangdoust teaches AE318 – Aerospace Structures course at ERAU. Previously, Dr. Farhangdoust was a Postdoctoral Scholar and Lab Manager at the Structures and Composite Laboratory (SACL) in the Aeronautics and Astronautics Department at Stanford University, where he led projects focused on intelligent structures with an emphasis on multifunctional energy storage composites and self-sensing diagnostics for space and aircraft applications. He also collaborated with Boeing to develop metamaterial-inspired energy harvesters and sensors, resulting in Boeing's sponsorship of several U.S. patents. Before his tenure at Stanford, Dr. Farhangdoust worked on smart structures in the Tangible Media Group at the MIT Media Lab as a Technical Consultant.
