Areas of Expertise

Interdisciplinary Risk Management

Hello and welcome to everyone taking SFTY 321. I am your instructor, Shawn Adams. I’ve taught on the full-time faculty for three other comprehensive universities, including full time at ERAU-Daytona Beach, a community college, and have taught online for three universities as well as developed curriculum for two others. Most important, although my Doctorate and first MS were from “brick-and-mortar” schools, both of my MBAs and my MSA are from online schools, just like you. Additionally, I have three professional designations, all of which required independent study. I can understand what you are going through!

My experience includes work in insurance loss control, construction safety, safety consulting while working for Lockheed Martin assigned to the Chicago SMO of the FAA, small business safety consulting, and hospital safety. I have about 40 publications in periodicals such as Professional Safety, Occupational Health and Safety, Occupational Hazards, the Risk & Insurance Newsletter, Risk Management Magazine, HR Management magazine, and other disciplines publications. I've spoke at the ASSE (now ASSP) National Conference, the Tennessee Regional Safety Council, in front of SHRM local groups, and been invited to address an international risk group regarding Hurricane Katrina.

I am a former 1st LT, Military Police, USAR. My experience includes time as an enlisted E-1, time with a combat MP company, and service as the Training Officer (peace time)/Civil Defense (war time) Officer in a Civil Affairs unit under the JFK Special Warfare Center.
