Biography
Dr. Yanbing Chen is an assistant professor of the School of Graduate Studies. Prior to her current role, she was an assistant professor of Aerospace and Occupational Safety in Applied Aviation Sciences Department. Dr. Chen did her Ph.D. in University College Dublin, Ireland. During the pandemic, her work shifted to public health emergency management, including a project on preventing COVID-19 superspreading events. Since 2021, she has been involved in multinational projects, researching open-source diabetes technology in Germany and collaborating on occupational safety practices across Europe. With interdisciplinary expertise in public health, occupational safety, data analytics and behavioral science, she has published 5 policy briefs with EU-OSHA before coming to the United States in August 2023. Dr. Chen is now teaching in both Master of Science in Aviation (MSAv) and Occupational Safety Management (MSOSM) programs. Her current research utilizes AI facial recognition technology to detect whether flight performance is influenced by the pilot’s alcohol consumption. Dr. Chen is passionate about integrating interdisciplinary knowledge to bring diverse insights to her research with a focus on health and safety.
