Zackery Reed

Dr. Zackery Reed received his Ph.D. in Mathematics in 2018 and studies student thinking and learning. Dr. Reed's teaching generally focuses on mathematics courses that prepare students for STEM and Data Science careers. He currently teaches Calculus, Differential Equations and Applied Linear Algebra.

Dr. Reed is a co-coordinator of the EQUATES Student Success Initiative, and enjoys creating ERAU-specific math and tech learning tools and explainer content.

Dr. Reed enjoys (and conducts research focused on) creating new interactive digital activities from which students can learn mathematics and science, such as the GeoGebra applet found here: https://www.geogebra.org/m/yymcrfbe

Dr. Reed also uses data science-related skills and methods to answer questions and create tools for pedagogical and fun personal projects. Some current and finished projects include: building "simple" recommender systems for his linear algebra class, exploring the theoretical and simulation-based probabilities of game mechanics such as dice rolls that allow for "exploding dice", leveraging open source text-to-speech technology to create audio book-style versions of academic papers and more.

For his research, Dr. Reed has two related foci: 1) discovering and fostering productive ways of thinking about STEM-related mathematical ideas, 2) exploring productive ways to leverage technology to support students’ development of productive mathematical meanings.
